Announcement for the positions of  PI (Specially Appointed Professor or Specially Appointed Associate Professor)

The World Research Hub Initiative (WRHI) at the Institute of Innovative Research (IIR), Tokyo Institute of Technology is soliciting applications for multiple fixed-term Principal Investigators (Specially Appointed Professor or Specially Appointed Associate Professor). WRHI seeks an established, collegial, and enthusiastic scientist or engineer to carry out original research work and contribute to the development of our institute and international network.

Research Field Any field related to that of the host professor at Tokyo Institute of Technology
Minimum Qualification Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree, enthusiasm for world-leading research
work, managing and promoting international exchange and international
collaboration. Several years of research experience outside of Japan is  desirable.
Expected Start Date April 1st, 2018 or later.
Term of office 3 years, with a possible 1-year reappointment.

Salary and Benefits The annual salary system is applied. Full or associate professors are provided
with a higher salary at the Tokyo Institute of Technology. Bonus and retirement
allowances are not provided. The following social insurance is covered for full-time employees:

• Medical and dental health insurance will be provided under the Ministry of
Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Mutual Society of Health
Insurance (“Monbukagakusho Kyousai Kumiai” in Japanese)

• Employment Insurance (“Koyou Hoken”)
• Worker’s Accident Compensation Insurance (“Rosai Hoken”)
Documents to be Submitted

Find a host professor in Tokyo Institute of Technology and submit the following
items through him or her.

1. Curriculum vitae (with photograph, telephone number, email and mailing
addresses) including academic background, professional career after high school,
applicant’s ResearcherID, and library-name of Google Scholar’s profile.

2. Summary of major research achievements to date (A4 paper; 2 pages or less).
3. List of research achievements categorized into the following types: a) refereed
original articles, b) reviews and commentaries, c) books, d) patents. All authors in the same order as each publication should be clarified. Five representative papers should be marked with the symbol of *.

4. Reprints or copies of five significant papers.
5. Explanation of the academic significance and importance of the five representative papers (A4 or letter size, up to two pages totally).
6. List of awards received, invited or keynote lectures of international meetings
and grants.

7. List of acquired research and educational funds (fund name, project title, budget, and period of research or education project). Specify whether the applicant is the principal investigator or a co-investigator and the total and allotted budgets in the case of a co-investigator for each fund. Social activity records including activities in academic societies, and the list of awards.
8. Research plan after taking this position (A4 paper; 2 pages or less)

1) The application must be planned and carried forth through a local contact (host professor). Please discuss with the host professor about the laboratory space and other conditions in advance. We will not accept direct applications.

3) WRHI provides a limited amount of start-up funding.
